What is Data stream?
A data stream is the flow of data from one website or app into a Google Analytics 4 property. A property can hold several streams, one per web site, iOS app or Android app, and each stream has its own measurement ID.

Why it matters
The stream is where measurement is configured: the G- measurement ID you install, enhanced measurement (scrolls, outbound clicks, site search, file downloads) and the list of unwanted referrals all live at stream level, not at property level.
How to read it
Google recommends one web stream per property for a single site; creating a second stream for the same domain splits the data instead of adding to it. When numbers look halved after a migration, two streams collecting the same site is the first thing to check.
In a Data Studio report
A Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio) report connects to the property, and the stream determines what arrives. It appears in reports as the platform dimension (web, iOS, Android) and as the stream name, which is how a single dashboard separates the website from the app.
Where to find it in Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4: Admin, then Data collection and modification, then Data streams (the measurement ID and enhanced measurement live there).
